My husband and I keep a big photo of my daughter on one of our bedroom walls.  It started because I printed them to enter in photo competitions.  It became a fun tradition for my daughter and I to plan and conduct her own private photo session each year.

The mommy-daughter photo sessions have continued each year, but I haven’t kept up with actually getting them printed.

A few weeks ago, my daughter reminded me of that fact when we were reading books together on my bed.

“Mom, you need a new picture of me.  I’m like 7 in that one.”

(She’s 9 right now…I’m not THAT far behind.)

But I do need to print a new picture.  But this year, I’m going to skip the perfect posed photos and choose a candid image from our trip in San Diego.

This is the photo I’m going to get printed.  Not only will it remind us all of a beautiful, blissful week spent on the beach as a family, it’s just the perfect representation of my daughter.

Perfect photo vs photo perfection

  • She doesn’t dip a toe into the water.  She wades into the ocean, running toward those waves head on.
  • She appreciates the beauty of a sunset and the joy of the sand between her toes and the wind in her hair.
  • She is always up for an adventure and doesn’t let what others think keep her from trying new things or having new experiences.
  • She is sunny and adventurous, brave and bold.  And just a little salty.

I am blessed beyond measure to have this little beach bum in my life and will remind myself of that each day with some new artwork.
