Pie of the Month Club
When I ask Outdoor Guy what he wants for his birthday, or Christmas or our anniversary, he will inevitably reply “Banana cream pie.”
The man does love his pie. Cream pies, fruit pies, flavor is irrelevant. Pie=Happy Hubby. But it has to be homemade. No Marie Calendar for this guy.
I like pie, too. But not with the fervor of my husband. And pies are just such an investment of time. I have to make and roll out the crust, then the filling, then the meringue and then I need to clean it all up. By the time I’m done baking the pie, I’m so tired of it, I don’t even look forward to eating it.
So my adventures in pie are usually reserved for holidays or when I feel guilty for my pie loathing.
This Christmas, though, I decided to take Outdoor Guy at his word and give him pie for Christmas. I enrolled Outdoor Guy in the “Mama Milner Pie of the Month Club.” Each month, I will make him a pie of his choice. No complaining or foot dragging included. I printed out a cute little certificate describing his membership benefits, tied it with a bow and put it in his stocking. I’m pretty sure it was his favorite Christmas present.
Today Outdoor Guy received pie #1 of 12, a Sour Cream and Raisin pie.
I must have done okay because when I pulled it out of the oven, he took one look at the thing, slapped me on the butt and proclaimed “That brings tears to my eyes, woman. It’s positively beautiful.”
He was in such a good mood after dinner, he told me he was going to install some new shelves in our office tomorrow. I’d only mentioned the project to him yesterday, so I figured it would be a few weeks before he could get to it.
Pie of the Month Club…the gift that keeps on giving. 🙂
