Forget flowing maternity gowns and smoke bombs and all the other session props. Give me a senior, a pig with personality and an FFA jacket any day of the week.

Meet Kodi and her pig Rosa. I had the great honor of taking some senior pictures for Kodi at the Wyoming State Fair last month in between hog shows and other state fair craziness. Kodi is a senior at Shoshoni. In addition to being a pretty amazing at showing livestock, Kodi is an outstanding FFA member and a seriously amazing human being.

First, I’ve got to give Rosa her due.  This pig had personality in spades.  I had to switch to a longer lens so I could stand further away.  Rosa kept walking up to me for loves and scratches.  She even sat down in Kodi’s lap for a belly rub.

But this was a senior session and we can’t let the pig steal the show, no matter how personable she was.

I’ve known Kodi’s dad since seventh grade and her mom since our own days in FFA. Kodi has the absolute best traits of both of her parents. Kodi is smart, kind, responsible and hard-working. She works hard and is a fierce competitor in the show ring. But outside of the ring, she can be found helping fellow members, smiling at the younger 4-Hers and being a great role model. She has an awesome laugh and a genuineness that just makes you want cheer for to succeed at everything.

Kodi wants to be a teacher when she grows up.  I love that idea.  Her mom and dad are two of the best teachers out there right now, so she has some built-in mentors.  But I also know she’s exactly the kind of teacher that my daughter would learn from and love with her whole heart.

It’s been an honor watching this young woman grow up over the years. To be asked to share in a small part of her senior year and her state fair…well, I’m in hog heaven.

Congratulations Kodi on your success with Rosa this year and best wishes for an awesome senior year!
