Tools of the Trade

Dirt Road Wife Photography may be a one-woman show.  But I’m supported by a whole other host of people and companies as I build my brand.  Without them, I’d be a hot mess.

Here’s a list of my favorite services, vendors and even photography editing tools I use every day to run my business.  Some of these links are affiliate links (denoted with a *), which means if you decide to purchase one of the products listed, I get a small percentage back to support my business!  (And it doesn’t cost you any extra!)  But these are actual businesses I use daily…I give them my money and trust them to take care of me.  I trust them to take care of you, too!

BUSINESS I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT

ShootProof* – Shootproof is the site I use to deliver client galleries and share images.  I love the customer service and that it links to my favorite family-owned print shops.  It’s essential to my workflow and offers custom automation, e-mail marketing, custom coupons, and the most beautiful galleries around.  This company is always looking for ways to make my life as a photographer easier!

Honeybook* – I tried to do everything on my own.  I had a really cool planner, faithfully entered things into my Google Calendar and I still felt like I was falling behind.  Enter Honeybook.  It handles my online booking, invoicing, questionnaires, expense tracking and so much more to help me keep on track with clients, payments, and more.

Quickbooks* – If I had known in college I was going to own my own business, I would have taken more accounting classes.  But even with a rudimentary knowledge of accounting, I’m able to keep all my business finances straight using Quickbooks online.  I tried some of the free software (because I’m cheap!) and in the end, it cost me more time and money.  Save yourself the hassle and get started in Quickbooks straight away!  Use my referral link to get up to 50% off and a $50 Visa® Card to help with your business needs when you sign up!

Stitchfix* – Want a personal shopper but can’t afford one?  Think again!  With the Stitchfix style service, you’ll have your own personal stylist and get quality clothes delivered right to your door!  I love Stitchfix for my own professional and personal wardrobe and recommend it to clients on the regular!

Dia & Co.* – Dia & Co. is another of my favorite styling services!  I LOVE my Dia stylist and use her frequently to help me find pieces for photoshoots, vacations, special events and more!  I alternate between Stitchfix and Dia & Co. because I can’t narrow it down to just one service.  I love them both!

GroBusiness Solutions – If you need promotional items for your business, talk to Kelly at GroBusiness Solutions.  She’s located in my home county in Wyoming, but she can get and ship products across the country.  Kelly is awesome at finding you the items you need at the best prices.  I use her for my customized zip drives, banners and more!

CreativeLive* – I splurged and bought a CreativeLive membership as a Black Friday deal in 2019.  It was seriously one of the best presents I could have given myself!  The content they offer for creatives is really amazing!  I’ve watched videos on posing, editing, and business.  And it’s not just photography!  They have classes on art, marketing, writing and more!  Check them out and learn for your business or just for yourself!

Bluehost* – I use Bluehost.com to host the Dirt Road Wife Photography blog.  I’ve also recommended it to web design clients.  Bluehost is affordable, reliable web hosting and has great customer service.  You can get a site for as little as $3 a month if you pay upfront, making it fast and inexpensive to get your website up and running for your business, service, or campaign!

OTHER BUSINESS AND SERVICES I RECOMMEND

KiwiCo* – This is a service I use personally and recommend to clients.  This is a subscription service for your kids.  Each month, they get a new subscription box in the mail.  You can choose from boxes focused on art, engineering or crafts.  My daughter is almost 8 and she LOVES her KiwiCo box.  I also recommend it to clients interested in an in-home lifestyle family photo session.  The boxes make a great activity you can do with your kids and I can snag pictures of you all enjoying an activity together!

Rakuten* – Rakuten used to be E-bates.  And I have no idea how you really say the new name.  But I still love it.  Basically Rakuten pays you for starting your online shopping experience through them.  You get cashback on your shopping trips using their merchants.  It’s crazy easy and helps me save money that I can use to reinvest in my business.  In addition to the cashback, you can snag some really great deals for your favorite merchants.
