“It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg.”  C.S. Lewis

Each year, I watch as the outgoing Wyoming FFA officers finish their year of service to the organization.  I’ve always watch the process of inducting new officers with a certain amount of sadness, because it means saying goodbye to a group of kids I’ve grown quite fond of.

But now, I think I’ll look at it in a different way.  They can’t go on just being an ordinary, decent egg.  They have to break out of that shell so they can learn to fly.

There’s a lesson there for all of us.  What might look like safety is actually certain death…of our spirit, our souls.  It’s scary breaking through to the other side, but only through change can we truly find our wings to soar.
