I

Goshen County PhotographerI am constantly humbled by my child.

After a few days of thunderstorms and clouds and rain, I was grumbling about the weather as we set off to see the new pheasant chicks that hatched the previous morning.

“But Mama, without the rain, I don’t get to use my umbrella.”

And just like that, I was given yet another life lesson from my 5-year old daughter.  I was choosing to focus on the negative aspect of the day…the mud, the gloom, the extra time it took to locate hats and coats and real shoes before venturing outside.  But my daughter chose instead on the positive.  Rain means she gets to use the beautiful purple umbrella her grandparents gave her last summer for her birthday.

We can’t control the world or the actions of others.  But we can always control our attitude.  We have a choice each day…grumble about the rain or look for the umbrella so you can dance in it.

Next time, I’ll look for the umbrella.
