Having Fun In Family Photos - Woehlecke Family - Torrington Wyoming

Three spirited girls, one happy dog and two smiling, patient parents equals absolutely fabulous family photos in my book!  It’s all about having fun in family photos and this family nailed it!

Meet the Woehlecke family.  I knew Crystal and Ryan when they were two crazy college kids in love.  Now I get to photograph their family and it’s always a treat.  

One of the best things about a family photography session with elementary-age kids is that I get to play too!  We twirled in fancy dresses, swished our skirts like we were bells, threw leaves in the air and finished with a rousing game of follow the leader.  

I love this family because they are always up for having fun in family photos!  They’ll play, cuddle, pose, laugh, and just generally enjoy themselves.  

But I also love this family for their character and commitment to each other.  Ryan and Crystal aren’t just parents who live in the same house…their friends, too.  They genuinely like and enjoy each other, and that comes through anytime you see them interact.  I also admire their commitment to their faith and community.

And these girls…how can you not just break out into a grin looking at them?  They are just the right amount of sweet and independent.  They have manners and show kindness but are also learning to speak up for themselves and express their opinions and ideas.  

During family pictures, I get everyone involved.  I let the kids pick a spot for a photo, choose how they want to stand for a few photos, or even let them pose their family (hilarity usually ensues after this one!).  These girls had LOTS of ideas for me, but that’s just the way I like it.

Empowering kids by lets them be active participants in the session.  Aside from the practice they get on an important life skill, it helps them feel more in control and gives them a sense of ownership in what happens in a session.  

It also gives them confidence.  The kids smile real smiles and stand a little taller when I leave some of the details up to them.  I absolutely love when parents tell me the kids go through the photos looking for the shots they directed!

My goals for a family picture session are always to make it a positive experience, to have fun, and to get great photos.  With the Woehlecke family, I know the fun and positive experience is a given.  I never end time with this family in anything less than a joyful and grateful mood!
