Torrington Wyoming Family Photographer - Jenny & Family
I read a lot of blogs on social media about mom-shaming and mean-girl moms. It’s when moms bully other moms for their parenting or lifestyle choices as a way to gain stature.
That is so NOT Jenny.
Jenny was one of the first mom friends I made here in Goshen county. We met through our kiddos’ preschool and I was immediately drawn to her friendliness, sense of humor and work ethic. She is the kind of woman you want to share a cup of coffee with AND serving on a committee with you. She’s smart. She works hard. She’s crazy organized. She comes to meetings with her crap together. And she’s hilarious in this really kind, understated way. Really her only discernable flaw is that she cheers for Gonzaga and the Seattle Seahawks.
No one is perfect. 🙂
But seriously…she’s amazing. And I adore her kiddos. So spending a morning with them last fall for family photos was a treat. We even got her husband in on the action, sandwiching a session in between busy times in his crazy schedule as a teacher and coach.
When Jenny’s son was a bit reluctant to take photos with everyone without his hat on, she remained unflappable. Where I would have probably resorted to threats or cajoling with my own kid, Jenny remained kind and calm. She let him warm up to the situation in his own time and way and soon he was smiling and telling me how I needed to take his picture.
“Okay Emily’s mom. You stand there and I’ll stand here,” he told me, pointing.
Now that’s a parenting and photography win.
There are lots of ways to parent and we each have our own style and approach. I love being surrounded by smart, strong and emotionally confident families because they teach me so much each and every time we interact. I grow as a family photographer and as a human being through these small but incredibly meaningful moments and the beautiful friendships I forge along the way.
